Ohrwert presents "Recordings From A Dimly Lit Studio" by R¥S. An alter ego once thought of to use for tracks that felt different from my other bodies of work, but rarely used to release any music. The artist name is a play on my first name, phonetically spelled (r+yen = Arjen), and the initial of my last name.
Much thought went into the decision wether I should release it through Ohrwert or not. It is not dubby, and not particularly deep, but it does share some common grounds and sheds light on music I have been working on in parallel to dub techno, which would probably not see the light of day otherwise.
The album starts off with the only two R¥S tracks ever released, as the final release on the Infraklang audioblog (infraklang.blogspot.com
), fully remastered to set the sound for the rest of the album.
Though it has been recorded over 7 years ago, Ambiguitas is the most recent recording, not long after Lexical. Both tracks are a hybrid crossover between dubby sound design and instruments and progressions used in house music.
Channel Four and Linger are also connected, as they both have a distinctive deep house sound.
Arneym and its sequel are sequencer driven tracks which clock in at over 10 minutes each, and share a similar drum kit from an obscure Clavia drum computer.
The album closes with a modern take on disco, modern as in the year 2015.
